Have you ever felt satisfied? It is common to think about satisfaction as a goal. What sort of a goal is it, though. A goal must be measurable, otherwise it is but a chimera. Nobody should ever settle with satisfaction.
Yeah, yeah we all heard it. Strive for the best you can. Duh. That is obvious. Nevertheless it is not easy. What is easy is to say, well that is not for me, I am not good enough at this or that. There are many people like that. No doubt about that. They are people with all kinds of goals, people that want to love and be loved, people who want to get the most without doing much, people that do not want anything at all, and probably many more…
And most of them settle. Settle for the average, thus creating the average. And from average cannot come anything else but average. Normal distribution is not called normal just for the sound of it. To me, satisfaction is temporary. I can feel satisfied today, but tomorrow, there will be a lack of it. With prolonged satisfaction comes normality and normality is what everyone fears. That is what I always found amusing, the fear of being normal. I’ve always had it, ever since I found out my differences.
Fighting normality is almost like fighting yourself, you are trying to get out of something while taking it with you. The hipsters are a perfect recent example. If one does not have anything different about themselves, they want to express the difference by their appearance. And others, as is in human nature, follow, creating a movement, taking something they were trying to leave behind. Normality.
It is similar with satisfaction. The more one tries to improve instead of satisfying, the more satisfaction they receive. It is those that strive for it, that have less of it. It is logical, when you think about it. In this sense it is similar to happiness.
To conclude, I believe that striving for above-average, not satisfying with little, can not only enable you to achieve, but more importantly, enable you to live in full. To widen your reach, and to open your sight.
