Why are people constantly wishing to escape reality? Is it only happening to people that are somehow not satisfied with their life? Or is it only about fun? Is anyone escaping to a shittier reality then they live in?
That is a lot of questions. So let’s dig in. First logical explanation to this is that unsatisfied people seek satisfaction elsewhere and virtual world of games, movies, books or whatever is the perfect place for that. But as I have mentioned earlier, there is no such thing as satisfaction.
Is it then because they believe that there is? Maybe. The reality is that we escape to what we like. We only want to do what we like. So we want to do more of that. And a little bit more and a little bit more after that. A slippery slope towards addiction. Doing only what we like is no direction to take either, it would seem.
Unless we somehow take control of what we like. Change it ever so often so that we do not have time to become addicted. Or control the time we spend doing it. Now that takes a ton of willpower.
So? Is that really my conclusion? Control your escapes from reality by using your will?
My idea is this. How about what if you like to torment yourself. Not in a masochistic way. What if you learned to like the shittiness of life. To enjoy the utter nothingness that happens in your life? Could it happen? I believe so.
I believe, that is the best approach to life. Accept that life is not fun, like that it is not fun, like the challenge it brings to you and this way need no external, virtual happiness maker, need not to escape.
